We've been swarmed the past week or so with news reporters and cameras. The AZ congresswoman is getting her rehab done here at the TIRR.
And I just happened to think this was super inspiring. I collaborate with several of the physicians in the video.
ok, I'm in a conference right now so I best skedaddle.

More exciting happenings
Is it weird that stories like this make my eyes water? I'm thinking that I'm pretty proud to be a part of the Houston SPCA volunteer team.
As an update to Lois, she is finally flowering. And stinking more.
And stay tuned for a photo update of our summer travels. I know my posts have been sparse and random (ie. trees? corpse flowers? animal stories?).

It's a boy named Baylor!
http://www.houstonzoo.org/baby-elephant-baylor/
This little (big) guy was named after Baylor College of Medicine!
Did you know that an elephant's gestation period is 22 months??
My friend Vicki has been part of the 24 hour birth watch team but is now off the hook!
I'm looking forward to saying hi in person :)

Continental merger with United
Wha?? Really?
Of all airlines, why oh why would Continental choose United? And move to Chicago?
I hope that a merger with United will not result in merging into United's quality of service or flight status reputations.

Olympics!
I'm a huge fan of the Olympic Games. I've always been biased towards the summer Olympics (partly because of my enthusiasm for USA Gymnastics; partly because I think the summer season is superior to the winter in general) but the games are amazing regardless. The most talented athletes in the world- all in one place at one time. Incredible.
Admittedly I haven't watched much of the Winter games this year but I am looking forward to tonight's women's figure skating program. It should be a great show and I'm predicting some tears.

Catching Up...
Since my last poost, we have
1. Journeyed to Maine and back

1. Journeyed to Maine and back

- beautiful scenery
- adventurous hiking
- delicious seafood
- wild blueberries
- Martha Stewart sighting

- the most horrendous winds I have ever seen/heard
- power outages
- flooding
- trees down everywhere
- "PODs" = "Points of Distribution" becoming a key word
- new meaning to waiting in a "long line" for gas (Nate waited in line for almost 2 hours one morning)
- grocery stores with empty produce sections, scarcity of bread, milk, and other frozen or refrigerated items (I was really craving bananas and milk for several days and could find it no where)

Go Trojans!
I know, football season is over. But I was just thinking about how fun it was to go to high school football games. So much spirit and excitement... a completely different environment than college football, in my opinion (although that could be an artifact of the college I attended...)
I knew that my old high school had gained recognition, especially in the past few years for their football team-- becoming state champs, but also notably their pre-game dance, the haka. I had no idea, however, how famous they are!!! That's my football-crazy high school!

Just wondering.
If Hillary Clinton wins the presidency, then who will be the First Lady?
Will we have our first First Man?
Will we have our first First Man?

I don't even know what to call this one.
Hilarious. And Ridiculous.
Clearly, we need to give more maps to the needy. Especially to The Iraqs of America. ???!!!!
Kudos to the host for not busting out laughing.

A Sixth Sense?
I always like to browse the health section of cnn.com, and today I came across this interesting story about a cat who senses death. Hard to believe, but having been featured in the New England Journal of Medicine (which I consider to be a very difficult medical journal to publish to), it must be somehow legitimate.

A Half-Dozen Miracles
I've always heard that one infant at a time is enough joy to make you lose sleep. Imagine sextuplets! Becoming a mom to six all at once. Seems awfully difficult to me but I could almost say that I foster some envy at the joy and miracle of it all. Imagining six little Nate-lottes and Char-ates- one crying, one spitting up, one that needs his diaper changed, one that's hungry, one that's cold and one that's actually being good- though it would be tough, it actually makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside! But I think the most troublesome part for me would be the six-way division of attention among the children. Someday, I will be thankful for the blessing of one little miracle-- and then, I'll probably be thankful that God blessed me with one at a time and not six at once! But, I'm getting ahead of myself. Who knows what the future holds?!

What has this world come to? (Or has it always been like this?)
Utterly horrified by yesterday's Virginia Tech shootings.
I can't decide if there really are increasingly more tragedies as time passes, or if it's just that I am older and more aware of the existing evil in this world.

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21.
